Country's Rising Star Roberta Lea
Makes Banjo Sweat in New Summer Smash "Girl Trip"
For immediate release
[Norfolk, VA - May 18, 2023] - Get ready to add another summer anthem to your playlist! Roberta Lea's brand new single "Girl Trip" is coming and it's sure to de-throne all other anticipated bops of the season. The award-winning country-neo-pop star is set to release the second single off her upcoming album “Too Much of a Woman” on June 9, 2023. It will be available on all streaming platforms.

"Girl Trip" has proven to be an infectious crowd-pleaser with an easy hook that prompts an immediate sing-along. The call-and-response grabs the listener and takes them on an endearing ride. The driving beat, the catchy melody and the cross-over instrumentation create the perfect soundtrack for road trips, beach days and wild nights with friends.
"Everyone has someone who brings it out of them. That one group of sisters (or brothers or others) where it doesn't even matter how long you've been apart, as soon as you get together, you're in for some good trouble." Lea explains

The song's lyrics capture the unwritten rules of engagement when a group of long-time friends get together for some quality time. In verse two, Lea sings first we always need the mama, to keep us together and control the drama. Three chords and the truth are captured in a snapshot of three minutes and thirty-eight seconds of practical, mischievous badassery.

Hailing from Hampton Roads, Virginia, which is home to other superstar talent such as Pharrell Wiliams, Missy Elliot, and Timbaland, Lea co-produced the track with up-and-coming star-studded producer and fellow Hampton Roads native Calvin Merazh. They held their sessions at seven-time Grammy nominated engineer Johnny Terrell's studio "Soul Haven".

Lacing the track with an infectious beat, Calvin lays down the perfect framework for Lea to expand with vocals and harmonies. The atmospheric pads and sweet marimbas give the song its Pop flavor, but the rhythmic guitars and mind-bending stunts of the banjo (thanks to banjoist Bill Gurley) seamlessly blends the record into Country territory. It's the perfect pop-country storm.

Paired with irresistible lyrics like get your tickets, time to fly, leave behind that nine to five, pour the drinks and let's get lit, it's time for another GIRL TRIP, the song is set to be, not just a summer smash, but a timeless classic.
About Robert Lea
As a recipient of the Color Me Country grant, a member of The Black Opry, and one of the newest inductees to CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2023, Roberta Lea is on a roll and gaining serious momentum. The multi-nominated and award winning songwriter hopes this song takes her career to a new level; even setting her sights on synch possibilities to future road-trip inspired films. She's been called "Artist to Watch" by The Nashville Scene for a reason and by the looks of this next record, she's certainly proving them right.
Roberta Lea, set to release her debut full-length, has the potential to not only be a crucial voice in the ongoing Black country renaissance, but also to score hits with her catchy, textured and beautifully sung originals. Lea is one of the many artists in the Black Opry community who sound equally at home in both mainstream and Americana formats, and demonstrate the slippery and incomplete distinctions between them. — Charles Hughes
